WHY LED? Journal from IEEE

You could fly around the world 531 times during the lifespan of a LED light. Light bulbs have come a long way from carbon filaments. LED light bulbs are making their way into more homes around the world with better efficiency, light output and dropping costs. On average, LED light bulbs have a lifetime of about 25,000 hours, outshining incandescent bulbs by a longshot. If the average commercial airplane could circumnavigate the globe without refueling or landing, it would take around 47 hours. This means you could screw in a LED bulb, flip it on, hop on a commercial plane and fly around the world more than 531 times before that LED bulb would burn out.
